Our approach

We invest globally in growth-stage, private companies with proven technology and commercial traction, run by talented mission-driven management teams. We are active minority investors.

We seek to identify companies which will be on the right side of the structural social and economic changes that are already under way. Our shorthand for this is “system positive.”

Now, more than ever, our heritage and expertise in sustainable investing defines us. Sustainability is not just part of what we do; it is the backbone of everything we do.

Our companies

Listen to our portfolio companies discuss how their products and services are accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy.

Value-add

We focus on innovations we believe are at the leading edge of the transition to a sustainable economy. Our expertise and insight as a pure-play sustainable investment manager adds value in the following ways:

Strategic guidance

We work with management teams to define and deliver ambitious long-term growth plans. We support companies on a wide range of topics including sustainability integration, international growth, organisational design and governance. And we provide support through a unique combination of our internal team and an extensive global network of subject experts.

Global network

In our efforts to drive sustainability, we draw together a global network of entrepreneurs, executives and researchers. We convene thought leadership summits on a wide range of issues, facilitated by Al Gore, our Chairman. And we draw on our networks to help customers and partners thrive.

Differentiated insight

We use a research-led approach, combining insights from a range of disciplines and experts. We employ system-level thinking, which leads to a nuanced understanding of long-term risks and opportunities across sectors. And we engage with our companies to translate insights into action.

Long-term mindset

We invest for the future. We value long-term relationships, with our companies and our network. And we leverage Generation’s continuum of capital and broader asset management platform to provide capital markets expertise throughout our companies’ evolutions.

Our team

We are united by the goal of proving the business case for sustainable investing. Our rigorous investment process and team-based approach are key to our success to date, both in terms of returns and impact.
